The Mediterranean Diet and Thyroid Autoimmunity — Where Observational Research Stands

The relationship between thyroid autoimmune conditions — Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease among them — and dietary patterns has been one of the more actively studied areas in nutritional endocrinology over the past decade. Several observational studies analyzing Mediterranean dietary cohorts in Italy and Greece have reported a negative correlation between a dietary pattern centered on olive oil, vegetables, fish, and whole grains and thyroid autoantibody levels.
